Del Mar

Heeeeyyy guys!!! Life has been happening. My summer has been amazing and I haven’t had a chance to blog much because I’ve been on the run, working, being a mom, and keeping my kid busy, while maintaining a social life. Enough about me right? You didn’t come here for that!!!

Let me tell you guys about one of the TOP 5 places I have dined in the DMV!!!! Hands down its Del Mar on the DC Waterfront/new Wharf location. The service is immaculate, every need is tended to IMMEDIATELY, but the food is EVEN BETTER. I’ve dined with Del Mar twice. The first time was awesome but the second was out of this world. The menu may intimidate you if you are afraid to try new dishes, but TRUST me, IT’S WELL WORTH IT!

So of course, sparkling water is a must when seated, preferably with lime or lemon. If you guys have read most of my posts, you know what comes next, COCKTAILS!!! Initially, I enjoyed the FLOR DE MALLORCA, which contained Vodka, Elderflower, Cocchi Rosa, Cava. It’s a very CUTE drink, but the SANGRIA ROJA is an absolute MUST. Its served with ice cubes that are frozen with grapes, pomegranate seeds, and edible flowers. The drink itself contains Red Wine, Brandy, Vermouth, and Orange. It’s not too sweet and the Brandy isn’t overpowering, it actually compliments the menu VERY WELL.

On to the appetizers. We started with Pan con Tomate. The Pan con Tomate is Catalan Crisp Bread, Tomatoes, Garlic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and we added Jamón Serrano. It was tasty Reminiscent of a classic ham sandwich, but tasty. We also ordered the Andalusian Gambas al Ajillo. In other words, we ordered the garlic shrimp. When I tell you guys this dish will BLOW your socks off!!! LISTEN!!! The shrimp are perfectly prepared in an oil and garlic sauce with chile peppers and bread. The bread is broken to crumbles and absorbs the oil and garlic sauce. This dish is sinful and heavenly at the same time. The second time around, we actually skipped the Pan con Tomate and ordered two servings of the Andalusian Gambas al Ajillo and enjoyed EVERY SINGLE BITE.

On our first visit, we enjoyed the Arroz Caldoso a la Marinera. This dish is a stew like dish that includes Soupy Mallorcan Rice, Monkfish, Manila Clams, Mussels, Sepia, and Prawn. The Arroz Caldoso a la Marinera is very appetizing. The rice is cooked perfectly as well as the seafood and the spices/flavors make every bite worthwhile. The Arroz Caldoso a la Marinera is divine, but has NOTHING on the Paella de Pescado y Mariscos. The Paella de Pescado y Mariscos comes served in the traditional round dish with Maine Lobster, Calamari, PEI Mussels, and Tiger Prawns. It’s also served with a side of aioli. Seafood can be cooked just right or it can be overcooked making it rubber band like. Every seafood element in the Paella was prepared 100% perfectly. We sat and ate like kings and queens with a nice view of the water. Our server took GREAT care of us as well.

Can you believe after all we ate, we had the audacity to order dessert? We ordered the Spanish Churros that come filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Nocilla. The churros are freshly fried and when the Chocolate Hazelnut Nocilla is added to the hot dough, it just melts. They were ‘delicioso’

You guys, please go and experience Del Mar. I have not ONE bad thing to say about this establishment. The accommodations, the view, the service, the food, all 5 stars across the board!!! Fabio and Maria Trabocchi you have truly outdone yourselves!!!
