The Walrus Oyster and Ale House

Summer is showing up and showing out this weekend in the DC area guys. Don’t fret! We have you covered with some refreshing, light eats that won’t have you feeling weighted down like a brick in this blistering heat. Lots of people love to get out and enjoy the many restaurants, sites, and activities the National Harbor has to offer, especially when it is warm out. If you happen to visit the National Harbor this weekend and you’re in the mood for a good drink and some delicious food, head over to The Walrus Oyster and Ale House.

The Walrus Oyster and Ale House is one of my go to lunch spots when I want to stay close to work but feel like I NEED a cocktail. (Don’t judge, we all need a little mid-day cocktail because life itself is stressful) The Walrus does a seasonal cocktail menu. This spring/summer season, they are offering an assortment of frozen margaritas and mojitos (check their website for specifics). I love me a good mojito, so I ordered the frozen Passion Fruit Mojito. Can you say silent creeper? This drink was DELICIOUS, REFRESHING, FILLING, and the bartender was NOT stingy with the spirits (lol).

On to the fooooooddd (what you guys are here for right?). We ordered the Crispy Calamari and the Chipotle BBQ wings. The Calamari is ALWAYS fresh and fried crispy, exactly how it’s supposed to be. The wings weren’t that great. They were cooked immaculately, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside but they were FLAVORLESS. I was expecting a BURST of flavor, after all, we ordered chipotle bbq, but they were actually BLAND (I know, major let down…how can you ruin a chicken wing…lol…). For lunch, I ordered the Grilled Atlantic Salmon, prepared medium. The Salmon sat on a pile of nicely whipped mashed potatoes, accompanied by sautéed spinach, and drizzled with a butter sauce. I think four of us ordered this dish and we were all blown away at how scrumptious it was.

Again, if you are heading out this weekend, check The Walrus Oyster and Ale House out and tell them Free Lunch sent you. They also have a location in the Columbia area if you are further north.
