Ana at District Winery

If you haven’t had a chance to explore the new DC Navy Yard, please go! Spring has FINALLY SPRUNG and the sites are amazing. One of my favorite restaurants there has to be Ana at District Winery.

Ana sits inside of the District Winery on the bottom floor and offers a nice bright view of the Anacostia. I had a chance to visit back when they first opened, which also happened to be during the winter edition of DC Restaurant Week. The view was amazing and the weather was actually cooperating this day, so the sun was shining bright inside. I started with a light cocktail, “Sounds Like An Apology,” which includes rosemary, elderflower, sparkling wine, and a bitter sugar cube. It was such a crisp yet pleasant sip. I did order from the restaurant week menu and I wasn’t at all let down. I ordered the CRAB BEIGNETS (I’ve checked their website and it appears that they have actually removed them from the menu…sad face) as an appetizer. If you guys love hush puppies…OMG, you would love these. They were fried to perfection on the outside, light and airy in the inside, and garnished with Maryland Crabmeat, roasted carrots, and Indian Romesco. The only word I can use to describe how awesome these beignets were is DELECTABLE. (ANA, PLEASE BRING THEM BACK IF YOU ARE READING THIS). As an entrée, I had the Pastrami Spiced Salmon. The salmon was prepared perfectly and the skin was crunchy. The sides included; sesame potatoes, charred cabbage, and carrot-mustard jus. I wanted to pick my plate up and lick it clean, but my mom did raise me to be civilized in public. Lastly, for dessert, I chose the Caramel Apple. The Caramel Apple came with caramel cremeux (the spiral caramel ice cream you see pictured), cider donuts (lightly fried donut holes covered in cinnamon sugar), and smoked vanilla ice cream. I took one bite, my eyes rolled back in my head and I wanted to fall out of my seat.  Now normally, I’m not drawn to the restaurant week menu because it never appeals to me, but I’m glad I made the selections I did because this entire meal was DELICIOUS. Everything but the Crab Beignets are still available to order. Go give Ana a try guys. You will not be disappointed.
